[ad_1]
It appears that Monkey Drainer, a notorious phishing scammer, has found another victim. He has, unfortunately, stolen $800k worth of NFTs. The scammer managed to steal 7 Crypto Punks and 20 Otherside NFTs, according to the blockchain investigator, ZachXBT. You can see the transactions in the following wallet: 0xc2C05F11f6e4Dfba016982811Ab12c361E63f466.
The scammer’s recent history
Over the past couple of weeks, Monkey Drainer has been the cause of multiple huge attacks. Just last week, he stole 700 ETH ($1m) through phishing scams. The drainer wallet being used has surpassed 7300 transactions after only being around for a couple of months. The largest victims were two traders, who collectively lost $370k by signing their wallets to sites pretending to be legitimate projects. As well as losing cryptocurrencies and NFTs from their wallets. ZachXBT estimated that the total amount stolen was around 3.5 million. Additionally, the scammer was also behind the DigiDaigku CEO hack that happened earlier today.
How to prevent your NFTs from being stolen
Even with the amount of NFT security precautions available online, accidents always happen. Sadly, in the NFT space, accidents usually result in a great loss. It’s always a good idea to brush up on your security knowledge. Our NFT security guide is always available to help you avoid scams like these. However, here are a couple of pointers. Before clicking on any sites, be wary of who is posting the links. Don’t connect your wallet or sign any transactions if you’re not certain. Like the picture above shows, it’s difficult to distinguish between a phishing link and a real link. To add to this, keep your valuable NFTs on a ledger and only use a burner wallet to connect to websites. It’s important to always do your own research and take the necessary precautions before doing anything else.
